LEEDS
leeds festival/ a 7 hour journey in van without a window/ melvis's spectacular mobile library/ radio coming through like tiny balls of felt/ the security blokes love the record!/ leeds festival/ mud and piss and mud and more piss/ last shadow puppets were great/ someone tied up our door with thick twine/ the vip area is on a steep incline/ bumper car war with jamie, melvis and strangers/ leeds festival/ was a riot/ lee and nancy will have to wait/ remembered the coffee maker but not the bottle opener/ mud and more piss/ the longest drive since the last long drive/ not my first rodeo/ black clouds and black balloons/ trucks transporting shit/ hot green lights/ almost fell off/ broke my imaginary back n neck n whatever shoulders i once owned/ over/ leeds festival/ was good on most accounts/ sugar dentures suit you, who knew?/ and happy anniversary to nick and teresa xxx

AND SO I REWIND... AND START BACK IN CHICAGO...
we played lolapalooza... but it was a near death experience.
the gig was in a black hotbox... or as other's might refer to as a "stage"... it was 115 degrees in there... in direct sun. the stage was black and i kid you not, the bottoms of my shoes were smoking. i don't remember much but covering myself with ice... and trying to get through it. we took a lot of golf cart trips that day...
and the cops were handing out d.u.i's to golf carts. our dressing room had blacked out windows and hardcore AC... the sun was melting faces everywhere i looked. or maybe just mine. a girl gave me a poem about... ice cream and chili. eventually the sun went down and i was revived at the rainbo bar. took a zillion photobooth pictures....

FROM TOKYO WITH LOVE
hello everyone. this letter is to all of our fans who attended summer sonic festival in tokyo last night.
i want to send our sincere thanks for your patience and understanding in response to our gear breaking mere minutes before we were due on stage. we are heartbroken that we did not get to play. we have been looking forward to it since we played summersonic in 2003. it's a wonderful festival and you are a wonderful audience and we hope to make it up to you in the near future. miraculously, this has never happened in the 7 years that we have been playing together.
our drum machine, rightly named "little bastard", has been a real comrade through all our years of touring and has suffered all forms of abuse yet always maintained a healthy glow.
little bastard has a lot of personality and a heart of gold, but he got in a foul mood when a stranger unplugged him while he was busy. we're taking him in for counseling and getting him the help he needs.
rest assured, he's well on his way to a full recovery. only the finest for little bastard. see you on stage today in Osaka.
